Auditions

Directed by Lily McGill with music direction by Jonathan Thomas

About the Show

Seventeen-year-old Evan Hansen has felt invisible his entire life. But when a tragedy shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else. As his web of well-intentioned lies begins to unravel, Evan is forced to confront the fact that the price of belonging may be far steeper than he bargained for.

Dear Evan Hansen contains strong language (including the use of the word "f**k"), mature themes involving suicide, anxiety, depression, addiction, grief, family conflict, and references to sexuality. Parents/guardians should carefully consider this content before allowing a minor to audition.

If you would like to audition but are unable to attend in person, we will gladly accept a video submission.

Who Should Audition?

All actors of all experience levels and abilities are encouraged to audition. We would especially love to see high school students audition for the teen roles, as our goal is to cast those characters as age appropriately as possible. Because of the mature themes and content of the show, auditions are limited to performers who are 15 years of age or older.

Mid City Civic Theatre is committed to building a diverse cast and warmly encourages performers of all genders, races, and ethnic backgrounds to audition.

Content Advisory

Dear Evan Hansen is a powerful and deeply moving musical that explores the universal need for connection and the importance of feeling seen and valued. While the production features humor, hope, and uplifting themes of belonging, it also addresses mature subject matter. Performers should be aware that the show includes themes of mental health, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, suicide, family conflict, and the impact of social media. We encourage all prospective auditioners to familiarize themselves with the show's content before auditioning.
